As-Salamu ‘Alaikum

A discourse of Sultan Al-Awliyaa Sayyidina Al-Ghawth ‘Abd-ul-Qadir Al-Jilani, radzi Allahu ‘anhu, the TRUE Sufi master of TRUE Sufi masters, as transcribed in the widely acknowledged Futuuh Al-Ghayb:

The Thirty First Discourse

On Abhorrence for Allah’s Sake

He [Al-Ghawth Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir], may Allah reward him, said: If you find in your heart abhorrence or love for a person, present his actions [i.e., look at them] in front of the Book [i.e., Quran] and Sunnah. Then if they are abhorred in these two [i.e., the Quran and Sunnah], and you abhor him, then be happy for the conformance with Allah and His Messenger [i.e., His & His Messenger’s ﷺ commands]. But if his deeds are in these two [i.e., Quran and Sunnah] and you abhor him, then know that you are a follower of your vain desires. You abhor him based on your whims, transgressing against him with your hostility towards him, and rebelling against Allah ‘Azza wa Jall, and His Messenger, opposing both [Allah and His Messenger ﷺ]. Then repent towards Allah ‘Azza wa Jall, from your enmity, and ask Him ‘Azza wa Jall, love for this person, and others from His loved ones, His awliyaa, His chosen ones, and the righteous ones from His slaves, so that you may conform to Him ‘Azza wa Jall [i.e., His commands]. And act thusly towards the one you love, that is, present his actions in front of the Book and Sunnah, and if they are beloved to both [the Quran and Sunnah, and of course, the Quran and Sunnah never oppose each other], then endear him; and if they are hated [by the Quran and Sunnah], then hate him; so that you may not love him through your vain desires and hate him through your vain desires. And you have been commanded to oppose your vain desires; He, ‘Azza wa Jall says [in the Quran: Translation of meaning:] “And do not follow your vain desire for it will lead you astray from Allah’s path” (Holy Quran 38:26)

Two small questions to anyone who is an aspirant to seek the path of Ahlus Sunnah, Ihsan and Tasawwuf:

1) Is disbelief (kufr) in Allah and His Messenger ﷺ loved or hated in the Quran and Sunnah?

2) How should a seeker of ihsan and an aspirant on the path of tasawwuf be towards someone who commits kufr – based on the above-mentioned teachings of the noble descendant of the Prophet ﷺ, a TRUE SUFI master celebrated and acknowledged by ALL Ahlus Sunnah, Sultan Al-Awliyaa ‘Abdul Qadir Jilani, radzi Allahu ‘anhu?

W-Allahu waliyy-ut-tawfeeq.
